Pages are rasterised. Converted pages become images: the visible layout is kept, but selectable text, links, form fields and vector graphics stop working on those pages. Pages you do not select are copied unchanged.

About this tool

About PDF Grayscale Converter

PDF Grayscale Converter turns all or selected pages of a PDF into grayscale. Each chosen page is rendered in your browser at Standard (150 DPI) or High (300 DPI) quality, converted to grayscale and placed back in a new PDF with the same page order and size. Unselected pages are copied unchanged.

Grayscale copies are useful for printing without colour ink, for consistent-looking archives and for submissions that ask for grayscale documents.

FAQ

Common questions

Each selected page is rendered in your browser, every pixel is converted to its brightness (luma), and the grayscale image becomes the new page. Pages you do not select are copied unchanged.
Not on converted pages. They become images, so text selection, search, links, form fields and vector graphics no longer work there, although the page looks the same apart from colour.
Yes. The output has the same number of pages in the same order, and each converted page has the same visible size as the original, including rotated pages.
Standard renders at 150 DPI, which suits screens and everyday printing. High renders at 300 DPI for sharper print output but produces larger files and takes longer.
Yes. Choose Selected pages and enter pages and ranges such as 2-4, 7. If a PDF cannot be copied page by page, you will be asked to convert all pages instead.
No. PDFs that need a password, or that are encrypted with usage restrictions, are refused. Remove the protection in a PDF app first.
No. The PDF is opened and processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or sent, and Reset clears it from the page.
