Pages
Pages are rasterised. Converted pages become images: the visible layout is kept, but selectable text, links, form fields and vector graphics stop working on those pages, and faint detail lighter than the threshold may disappear. Pages you do not select are copied unchanged.

About this tool

About PDF Black & White Converter

PDF Black & White Converter turns all or selected PDF pages into pure black and white. You choose a threshold from 0 to 255 while watching a live preview of the first selected page; the same threshold is then applied to every converted page, and the result is rebuilt as a PDF with the original page order and size.

True black-and-white pages print crisply on any printer, can make scanned documents easier to read and suit forms or portals that require monochrome documents.

FAQ

Common questions

Each pixel’s brightness is measured from 0 (black) to 255 (white). Pixels darker than the threshold become black and all others become white. Raise it to darken the page; lower it to keep only the darkest marks.
Yes. The preview and every output page use the same brightness formula and the same threshold. The preview is simply drawn at a lower resolution.
True black and white has no grey. Light lines, pale highlights or faint scans that are lighter than the threshold become white. Try a higher threshold if details are lost.
Not on converted pages. They become images, so selectable text, links, forms and vector graphics stop working there. Unselected pages are copied unchanged.
Yes. The output has the same pages in the same order, and each converted page has the same visible size as the original.
Standard (150 DPI) is fine for reading and most printing. High (300 DPI) keeps small text crisper in black and white but makes a larger file.
No. The PDF is opened and processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or sent, and Reset clears it from the page.
