About this tool

About Debt-to-Income Ratio Calculator

Debt-to-Income Ratio Calculator divides your total recurring monthly debt payments by your gross monthly income to give a DTI percentage. It also shows total monthly debt and income remaining before other expenses. It does not assess loan eligibility or judge a ratio as good or bad. Educational estimate only — not financial advice.

DTI is a common way to describe how much of your income goes to debt payments. Calculating it from your own figures, with each debt listed, makes the number easy to understand and check.

Recurring monthly debt payments such as home-loan or mortgage instalments, car loans, personal loans, student loans and minimum credit-card payments. Lenders and organisations differ on what they count — some include rent or housing costs, others do not — so check the definition that applies to you.
It is your gross monthly income minus the debt payments you entered. It does not take away taxes, living costs or savings, so it is not the same as disposable income. It can be negative if payments exceed income.
No. Lenders use their own criteria, definitions and limits, and consider many other factors. This tool only shows the ratio of the figures you enter; it does not judge whether a ratio is good or bad.
