    About this tool

    About PDF Page Counter

PDF Page Counter reads one or many PDF files and reports how many pages each has, together with its file size, PDF version, encryption status, page sizes and orientation. It adds up the pages of every file that could be read and clearly lists any file that is damaged, not really a PDF, or locked with a password.

Printing quotes, translation estimates, scanning batches and document submissions are often priced or limited by page count. Counting pages for a whole folder of PDFs at once, without opening each one, saves time and avoids mistakes.

    How to use

    Step by step

    1. Drop one or more PDF files onto the upload area, or click it to browse.
    2. Wait while each file is read; progress is shown above the list.
    3. Check each file’s pages, version, sizes and orientation, and the combined total.
    4. For a locked PDF, type its password and press Open with password.
    5. Remove individual files if needed, then copy the summary or download it as CSV.

    Best practices

    Tips for best results

    • Check the “Locked or failed” count before relying on the total.
    • Use the page-size summary to spot mixed A4 and Letter documents before printing.
    • Re-save a damaged PDF from a PDF viewer and add it again if it cannot be read.
    • Remove duplicates from your selection so files are not counted twice.

    FAQ

    Common questions

Each PDF is opened locally with the bundled pdf.js library, which reads the document’s page tree. The count is the number of pages a PDF viewer would show.
The visible page area of every page (up to the first 5,000 pages), grouped by size. Common sizes such as A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal and Tabloid are named, sizes are given in millimetres, and the page’s rotation setting is taken into account for portrait or landscape.
If a PDF needs a password to open, it is marked as locked and you can type its password to read the page count. The password is used only in this tab for that file; it is not stored, and the tool cannot open a PDF without the correct password. PDFs that only restrict printing or editing open without a password and are marked as encrypted.
Files that do not start with a PDF header — for example images or text files renamed to .pdf — and PDFs that are too damaged to read. Each problem is listed with a reason, and those files are left out of the total.
No. The combined total adds up only the files that were read successfully. Locked files are added once you enter the correct password.
Up to 50 files at a time and 100 MB per file.
No. Files are read in your browser only. Nothing is uploaded, and the original files are never changed or re-saved.
    Private by design
