About this tool

About Image Dimension & File-Size Analyzer

Image Dimension & File-Size Analyzer measures one or many images in your browser. For each file it shows the format detected from the file’s bytes, its MIME type, file size, pixel dimensions (with EXIF rotation applied), aspect ratio, orientation, megapixels, whether it contains transparent pixels and an estimate of the memory needed to open it. It warns about extremely large images, unusually large files and extensions that don’t match the content.

Websites, marketplaces and apps often have limits on image size, dimensions and format. Knowing the real numbers before uploading saves failed uploads and slow pages, and spotting a mislabelled file (such as a JPEG named .png) avoids confusing errors later.

How to use

Step by step

  1. Drop images onto the upload area or click to choose them.
  2. Wait a moment while each file is measured — progress is shown above the table.
  3. Review the dimensions, ratio, megapixels, transparency and notes for each image.
  4. Sort the table by name, width, height, file size or megapixels.
  5. Copy the report or download it as a CSV file.
Key features

What it offers

  • Real format detection from file signatures
  • File size, pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and orientation
  • Megapixel count and estimated decoded memory
  • Transparency detection by checking alpha values
  • EXIF-rotated photos shown at their displayed size
  • Warnings for huge dimensions, large files and extension mismatches
  • Sortable results table
  • Copy report and CSV download
Best practices

Tips for best results

  • Resize images to the size they will actually be displayed at before publishing.
  • Check the extension warning before uploading files to strict platforms.
  • Use JPEG or WebP for photos and PNG or WebP when you need transparency.
  • Keep very large images out of web pages — memory use grows with pixel count, not file size.
  • Use the EXIF Metadata Viewer if you also need camera or location details.

FAQ

Common questions

From the file’s own bytes (its “signature”), not from its name. If the extension says .png but the content is JPEG, the tool shows the real format and flags the mismatch.
The displayed size, with any EXIF rotation applied — the way browsers show the image. When a photo is stored sideways and rotated by its EXIF orientation, the tool also tells you the stored size.
For formats that can be transparent, the image is drawn on a canvas and every pixel’s alpha value is checked. Very large images are checked on a scaled copy, which the result says. JPEG and other formats without an alpha channel are reported as having none.
Width × height × 4 bytes — roughly how much memory an app needs to hold the decoded image as 8-bit RGBA pixels. It explains why a small compressed file can still be heavy to open.
No. This tool reports measurements it can verify from the image itself. Use the EXIF Metadata Viewer to read camera, date and location tags.
Any format your browser can decode — typically JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, AVIF and SVG with an intrinsic size. HEIC and TIFF are recognised but most browsers can’t decode them, so they are listed with a reason.
No. Files are only read in your browser; nothing is uploaded and the originals are untouched.
