About HTML to Markdown Converter
HTML to Markdown Converter turns pasted HTML into readable Markdown. It converts headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, links, images, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, inline code, code blocks, horizontal rules and simple tables. The HTML is parsed into an inert document — scripts, styles, iframes and event handlers are removed and nothing runs or loads — and notes list anything that couldn’t be converted.
Markdown is the format of README files, documentation sites, wikis, static-site generators and many note apps. Converting existing HTML by hand is tedious and error-prone; this tool does the bulk of the work and tells you what needs a manual check.
Step by step
- Paste HTML source into the left box, or press Load sample HTML.
- Choose the bullet character and code fence style if you like.
- Read the Markdown on the right — it updates as you type.
- Check the notes for anything removed, simplified or unsupported.
- Edit the Markdown if needed.
- Copy it or download it as a .md file.

Tips for best results
- Paste the article content rather than a whole page to avoid menus and footers.
- Review tables with merged cells — Markdown can’t represent them.
- Check links that use relative URLs; they stay relative in the Markdown.
- Preview the result in the Markdown renderer you will publish with.
- Keep the original HTML if exact styling matters.
