About this tool

About Grade Calculator

Grade Calculator works out your current course grade from weighted assessments such as assignments, quizzes and exams. It shows the weighted grade so far, your raw score, how much of the course is complete and how much remains, and — if you set a target — the average you need on the remaining work.

Most courses weight assessments differently, so a simple average of your marks can be misleading. Knowing your weighted standing and exactly what you need on the final exam or remaining assignments helps you plan your study time realistically.

How to use

Step by step

  1. Enter each assessment’s name, the score you earned, its maximum score and its weight.
  2. Leave the score blank for assessments you have not taken yet.
  3. Add, remove or reorder rows as needed.
  4. Optionally enter a target final grade.
  5. Press Calculate grade, then read the result, breakdown and steps, and copy or download the summary.

FAQ

Common questions

Each graded assessment contributes (score ÷ maximum) × weight. The current grade is the sum of those contributions divided by the total weight of the graded assessments, so it shows how you are doing on the work completed so far.
The raw score adds up all points earned and divides by all points possible, ignoring weights. The weighted grade respects each assessment’s weight, which is how most courses calculate the final grade.
Fill in its name, maximum score and weight, and leave the score earned blank. It then counts towards the remaining weight and the target calculation.
Needed average on the remaining work = (target − weighted points already earned) ÷ remaining weight × 100. The tool also converts that into points for each remaining assessment.
The tool shows a warning with the actual total instead of quietly treating the course as complete. The current grade is still calculated from the graded work, but the target calculation needs weights that total exactly 100%.
If you would need more than 100% on the remaining work, the tool says the target cannot be reached and shows the highest final grade still possible. If you have already secured the target, it says so.
No. A score above the maximum is rejected, as are negative scores and weights outside 0–100%. If your course gives extra credit, adjust the maximum score to match.
No. Assessments exist only in this page while it is open. Reset removes added rows and all results.
