About this tool

About CSV Viewer & Editor

CSV Viewer & Editor opens comma-, semicolon- or tab-separated data as an editable table. It parses quoted cells correctly — including delimiters, line breaks and escaped quotes inside quotes — and lets you edit cells, add or delete rows and columns, rename and reorder columns, filter and sort before exporting CSV or TSV.

Opening a CSV in a spreadsheet can silently change it: leading zeros vanish, long numbers turn into scientific notation and formula-like cells may run. Editing it here keeps every cell as plain text, and safe export protects the people who open your file in a spreadsheet later.

How to use

Step by step

  1. Open a .csv or .tsv file, or paste the text into the box.
  2. Leave the delimiter on Auto-detect or choose comma, semicolon or tab, then press Load into table.
  3. Edit cells directly; use the column buttons to move, delete or rename columns, and Add row / Add column to grow the table.
  4. Filter rows by text or sort by any column, ascending or descending.
  5. Pick safe or raw export, then copy the CSV or download CSV or TSV.
Key features

What it offers

  • Auto-detection of comma, semicolon and tab delimiters, with manual override
  • Correct handling of quoted cells, embedded delimiters, line breaks and "" escapes
  • Full Unicode support, including Indian scripts and emoji
  • Cell editing, add/delete rows and columns, rename and reorder columns
  • Text filter and numeric-aware ascending/descending sort
  • Safe export that neutralises formula-like cells, plus a clearly warned raw mode
  • Limits of 20 MB, 100,000 rows and 500 columns, checked before the table is built
Best practices

Tips for best results

  • Keep safe export on for files that people will open in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets.
  • Check the detected delimiter in the status line — European files often use semicolons.
  • Turn off “First row contains column names” if your file has no header row.
  • Clear the filter before exporting if you want every row in the file.
Benefits

Why people use it

No silent changes

Cells stay exactly as text — no reformatting of numbers or dates.

Safer sharing

Formula-like cells are neutralised before export by default.

Quick edits

Fix, reorder and tidy columns without a spreadsheet app.

Private

Your data is parsed and edited only in your browser.

FAQ

Common questions

Comma, semicolon and tab. The tool parses the first records with each one and picks the delimiter that gives the most consistent number of columns. You can override it with the Delimiter menu and press Load into table again.
Yes. Cells wrapped in double quotes can contain the delimiter, line breaks and escaped quotes written as two double quotes (""). Export quotes such cells again so the file round-trips correctly.
Spreadsheet apps can treat a cell that starts with =, +, - or @ as a formula. Safe export adds an apostrophe in front of such cells (and of cells starting with a tab or carriage return), so Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets show them as text. The number of cells changed is shown before you export.
Only when you need the cells exactly as typed — for example when the file is read by a program rather than opened in a spreadsheet. A warning is shown because formula-like cells may run when the file is opened in a spreadsheet app.
Sorting reorders the rows in the table and in the export. Filtering only hides rows; while a filter is active, Copy and Download export just the rows the filter shows, and the tool tells you how many.
Up to 20 MB, 100,000 rows, 500 columns and 2,000,000 cells. Larger data is rejected with a message before the table is built. The table shows rows in pages so the browser stays responsive.
No. Every cell is plain text in an editable box. Formulas are never evaluated and HTML is never rendered.
