Calculate

Circle Calculator

Choose which measurement you know — radius, diameter, circumference or area — enter it with its unit, and get the other three instantly. Lengths are shown in your unit, area in square units, and a simple diagram labels the value you started from.

About this tool

About Circle Calculator

Circle Calculator finds all four basic measurements of a circle — radius, diameter, circumference and area — from whichever one you know. It applies the standard formulas with π, labels lengths in your unit and area in square units, lists the formulas it used and draws a diagram labelled with your starting value.

Working backwards from a circumference or an area to the radius is where most mistakes happen, especially with square roots and units. Getting every measurement at once, with units handled correctly, is useful for DIY projects, garden beds, pipes, round tables and school geometry.

How to use

Step by step

  1. Choose the measurement you know: radius, diameter, circumference or area.
  2. Enter the length unit, such as cm, m or in (optional).
  3. Enter the known value — for an area, in square units.
  4. Press Calculate circle.
  5. Read all four measurements, check the formulas and diagram, then copy or download the summary.
Key features

What it offers

  • Start from radius, diameter, circumference or area
  • Standard formulas: d = 2r, C = 2πr, A = πr², and their inverses
  • Lengths in your unit and area in square units — never cubic units
  • Formulas and substituted values listed for every result
  • Responsive diagram labelled with the known measurement
  • Decimal input with clear errors for zero, negative and oversized values
Best practices

Tips for best results

  • Measure the diameter of real objects across the widest point; it is easier than finding the centre.
  • Enter an area in square units of the same unit you set, for example cm² with cm.
  • Round the results only at the end, to the precision your project needs.
  • Convert units first with a length or area converter if your measurements are mixed.

FAQ

Common questions

Diameter d = 2r, circumference C = 2πr = πd, and area A = πr². Working backwards: r = d ÷ 2, r = C ÷ (2π) and r = √(A ÷ π).
Radius, diameter and circumference are lengths, so they use your unit (for example cm). Area uses square units (cm²). If you start from an area, enter it in square units — for example 50 means 50 cm² when the unit is cm. The calculator never shows cubic units, because a circle is flat and has no volume.
JavaScript’s built-in Math.PI, which is π to about 15–16 significant digits. Results are shown to 10 significant digits.
Yes. Enter any positive number with up to 15 significant digits, such as 2.5 or 0.0035. Zero, negative numbers and values above 1,000,000,000,000 are rejected.
Yes. Results are then labelled “units” and “square units”. Units can be up to 12 characters, such as mm, in, ft or m.
No. The diagram is a fixed illustration that labels the measurement you entered; it is not drawn to scale.
